EPP Women “Statement on Ukraine”
EPP Women Statement on Ukraine
By October 2024 it is already nearly 1000 days that the invasion of Russia in Ukraine is going on.
With intense concern the EPP Women Executive Board, being gathered in Marrakech from 26 to 29 September, took notice of the detailed and worrisome information of lryna Gerashchenko, Member of Parliament of Ukraine on behalf of our EPP Sister Party European Solidarity considering this period of time:
- according to UN data more then 30.000 Ukrainian civilians have become victims of Russia’s aggression: men, women and children of which over 10.000 have been killed and nearly 20.000 wounded;
- the Ukrainian Prosecutor General has recorded at least 314 cases of war• related sexual violence, with both female as male victims with ages ranging from 4 to 82 years old;
- nearly 3800 kindergartens, schools and universities have been damaged,
- 380 of them destroyed, representing13% of all educational buildings in the country; due to shelling a million children are forced to study remotely;
- over 1650 medical institutions were damaged and over 200 destroyed; with over 6,5 million refugees abroad and 20.000 children illegally being deported by Russia, Ukraine is a country of families being disrupted.
After 1000 days of occupation and war Ukraine now is seriously threatened by a humanitarian and a demographic crisis.
This cannot go on for another 1000 days! Russia’s aggression must be stopped! The EPP Women support MP Gerashenko’s call on the international community to end this humanitarian catastrophe and in particular safeguard Ukrainian families with all help that is needed.
